Cult of Omer

Page history last edited by Michael 11 years ago

Brewing, and the providing of brew to the public, is Omer's delight. He is a minor member of the Western Pantheon, friendly to all but especially to Librura.

Mythos and History

After the deities withdrew from the world by the compromise of Saynday and Sowethin, the gods and goddesses of civilization began to guide the Kafyah. Among Librura's companions was Omer, who taught the savages some interesting things to do with Librura's bounty. The practice of brewing thus began among the Kafyah in the long years after the Cleaving of the Diamond People, and up until the time of the Universal Empire the cult had no TyrNai members. However, Omer's cult was heavily suppressed during the time of the Universal Empire, and in subsequent years the prejudice against the TyrNai has subsided.

Organization

Except in Tara and few other large cities, there is no permanent structure to the cult of Omer. Outside of Tara, becoming a priest requires the member to set up a brewery, which in turn calls for the services of at least one initiate, but no loyalty towards the "major" breweries is required.

In Tara and some other places multiple breweries exist, i some cases with multiple priests employed. The senior-most of these is considered a High Priest for that city. The breweries in Tara (at least) have evolved a system to choose successors for control of the breweries when a brewer is incapacitated, dies, leaves, or retires.

In smaller cities, and in the countryside, the taverns or breweries are commercial affairs, opened, closed or bequeathed as local law and custom permits. Taverns and simple inns are usually operated by initiates; breweries are more often in the care of a priest.
