Doc Apache Mapsback to the Index Doc's map to the City of Gold
Doc Apache's instructions read, more or less:
Fly 170 miles NW, with mountains to your left (course is NE by compass) 150 miles west over mountains (N by compass) 200 miles SSW with mountains to your left (WNW by compass) 110 miles south over mountain range (W by compass) Land at south end of lake (west end by compass) Total 630 miles.
For the round trip, plus a 15% safety factor, each plane should carry a 55 gallon drum of aviation gasoline, to be poured into the fuel tanks while at the City of Gold. The red line is the usual pack train route (close to 1,000 miles), the blue line is the flying route.
