E4 Septic Cache

Page history last edited by Kirk 3 years, 8 months ago

back to Team E-4 or the Index

This is a heavy-duty concrete septic tank, buried under at least 2 meters of cinders within a couple hundred meters of the Aiken bunker.  The tank weighs (empty) 8 tons; the lid alone weighs 1.8 tons, and each 20" diameter cleanout hatch weighs 15 kg. Internal volume is 7.5 cubic meters.

It was filled and buried in May of 1984, with contributions by Porter, Max, JR, and Rafi.

Porter

Colton's cache contents will reflect his belief that "only suckers buy things they could make for themselves" and his interest in trapping, hunting, and leather working. Items he adds include

  • a full set of Blanchard leather working tools ("if you buy something, there is no shame if you get the best there is")

  • a full-sized anvil

  • Colton's set of butcher's tools. Though the links are to modern versions of the products, Colton's tend towards 'vintage' status

  • a set of bellows that look home-made

  • a foot-treadle & grindstone

  • a full set of smithy tools, details to follow

  • crucibles and other things needed for isolating gold from ore

  • a saxophone case, large enough for a tenor sax

  • a set of handmade stretching boards for furs

  • a case of Lagavulin 16

  • a cask of bourbon, if we can get the Project to bring it (I'll defer to Kevin for selecting a specific brand or to say if it is even possible to get a cask to allow for more aging)

  • CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 52nd Edition (1971) 9x6x1". Noticeably used book with heavy wear to the cover. Pages contain marginal notes, underlining, and or highlighting.

  • Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures, 12th Edition (1983)

  • a bench-top Tuttnauer manual autoclave

  • stainless steel dental picks and tools

  • theodolite, transit, staff for surveying

  • slide rule

  • cosmoline.  A lot of cosmoline.

  • vaseline.  A lot of vaseline.

  • 100 lbs of green coffee beans

  • pair of field binoculars (7x)

  • large bowie knife with stacked leather handle

  • a matching set of eight Benrus Type 1 wrist watches, one for each team member  ("Sometimes being the leader is expensive.")

There will be clothing (tbd), but minimal personal hygiene  ("Cultivating a manly musk puts your opponents on notice").

  • barber's scissors, a straight razor, a couple sturdy combs, a loofah, a case of Lava soap, two washcloths, and a hand-towel and a jock strap

"The personal items come from a personal cache.  That's all I can say."

Max

Rafi
