Persons can replace body parts due to injury, disease, or whim. The Church considers the creation of cyborgs to be sinful, and thus the replacement of healthy body parts is frowned upon. Most of these modifications take about a week or less in a fully-equipped hospital, plus about 1 to 6 weeks of retraining and therapy. All of the listed items are Index 3 unless stated otherwise.

  • Lower arm and hand replacement. Below the elbow. STR 10 or less, cost 100 Σ.
    • cosmetic skin, with complete senses:  +60 Σ. Preferred socially.

    • variable skin texture and tone:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • variable limb length, thickness, and form:  +50 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • chameleon/video skin:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • covert ballistic armor, 8 pts:  +20 Σ. Frowned on by the Church.

    • implanted retractable melee weapon:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • Anvil-level synthetic rigid armor, 22 pts, ; obvious to touch, or any scanner, or a Spot Hidden roll:  +100 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • increased strength, for STR 14:  +50 Σ.

    • increased strength, for STR 18:  +100 Σ.

    • increased strength, for STR 22 and +1 HP:  +200 Σ, requires torso enhancement or natural STR 18+. Frowned on by the Church.

    • increased strength, for STR 26 and +1 HP; obvious to touch, or to any scanner, or to a Spot Hidden roll:  +400 Σ, requires torso enhancement. Banned by the Church.

    • integrity scanner:  +20 Σ.

  • Complete arm replacement. Cost +50% more than for just the lower arm and hand.

  • Lower leg and foot replacement. Below the knee. STR 10 or less, cost 50 Σ.
    • cosmetic skin, with complete senses:  +30 Σ. Preferred socially.

    • variable skin texture and tone:  +5 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • variable limb length, thickness, and form:  +25 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • chameleon/video skin:  +5 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • covert ballistic armor, 8 pts:  +10 Σ. Frowned on by the Church.

    • implanted retractable melee weapon:  +5 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • Anvil-level synthetic rigid armor, 22 pts, ; obvious to touch, or any scanner, or a Spot Hidden roll:  +50 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • increased strength, for STR 14:  +25 Σ.

    • increased strength, for STR 18:  +50 Σ.

    • increased strength, for STR 22, +25% running speed (25 kph road speed, 15 kph cross-country), +1 HP:  +100 Σ, requires torso enhancement or natural STR 18+. Frowned on by the Church.

    • increased strength, for STR 26, +100% running speed (40 kph road speed, 25 kph cross-country speed), +1 HP; obvious to touch, or to any scanner, or to a Spot Hidden roll:  +200 Σ, requires torso enhancement. Banned by the Church.

  • Complete leg replacement. Cost +50% more than for just the lower leg and foot.

  • Psychology shield:  120 Σ, frowned on by the Church. Doesn't require head reconstruction, but can be installed for only 120 Σ if you're getting head reconstruction at the same time.

  • Crucis:  the cybernetic interface, implanted in the occipital lobe of the brain, which allows the operation of Iron and starships. The system which is connected can provide visual, somatic and audible information to the pilot, and responds to mental commands; it also monitors vital signs. The occipital lobe is at the very back of the skull; in theory, the actual port could be located elsewhere on the body -- but Iron and most Hammer vessels are constructed so that only the cross-shaped skull ports can be employed easily. Restricted to the nobility, who also have their hair removed (corvus); but of course illegal crucis implants are known (and subject to harsh penalties if discovered). The implantation procedure is Index 3, not usually requiring hospitalization. Cost for a legal crucis, 1,000 Σ -- illegal implants are much more expensive.

  • Eye replacement. Cost 10 Σ.

    • recording, x9 zoom, low-light and thermal imaging:  +10 Σ, frowned on by the Church.

    • variable iris color or eyeball graphics:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

  • Ear replacement. Includes increased sensitivity, overpressure protection. Cost 10 Σ.

    • recording capability:  + 5 Σ, banned by the Church.

  • Head reconstruction. 125 Σ. Banned by the Church for non-therapeutic reasons.

    • cosmetic skin and hair, with complete senses:  +60 Σ. Preferred socially if you do get head reconstruction.

    • removable/replaceable face (Mission:  Impossible style):  +5 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • extra-sensitive olfactory sensor:  +90 Σ, frowned on by the Church.

    • variable skin texture and tone:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • variable skeletal and musculature:  +50 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • variable hair:  +20 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • chameleon/video skin:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • covert ballistic armor, 8 pts:  +20 Σ. Frowned on by the Church.

    • fangs, implanted retractable melee weapon, and other nonsense:  10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • filter mask and gas proofing:  +25 Σ, frowned on by the Church.

    • Anvil-level synthetic rigid armor, 22 pts, ; obvious to touch, or any scanner, or a Spot Hidden roll:  +100 Σ, banned by the Church.

  • Voice Box. 25 Σ.

    • voice modification and mimicry, special effects:  +25 Σ, banned by the Church.

      • chameleon/video skin:  +10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • covert ballistic armor, 8 pts:  +30 Σ. Frowned on by the Church.

    • Anvil-level synthetic rigid armor, 22 pts, ; obvious to touch, or any scanner, or a Spot Hidden roll:  150 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • implanted retractable melee weapon:  10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • smuggling pouch or covert weapon holster:  10 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • medium-range radio:  15 Σ, banned by the Church.

    • torso enhancement, to match STR 22 limbs, also +1 HP:  100 Σ. Frowned on by the Church.

    • torso enhancement, to match STR 26 limbs, also +1 HP; obvious to touch, or to any scanner, or to a Spot Hidden roll:  200 Σ, banned by the Church.

Any person with artificial limbs, head and torso can have further modifications to make them a fully vacuum-capable cyborg. These modifications are obvious to touch, or to any scanner, or to a Spot Hidden roll. 50 Σ, banned by the Church. A full cyborg can include additional equipment, and better synchronization of all their systems. Beyond that, a cyborg can be built into Anvil or Iron, or even a vehicle, for at least 1000 Σ. Such a being can add more sensors, grav/pressor modules, built-in weaponry, advanced communications and crypto gear, tools, etc. ... Any such cyborg is however totally anathema and proscribed by the Church, and probably hunted by whichever Kingdom they're in (unless created covertly by the security services). Even the Vaylen find full-body cyborgs to be daunting and socially awkward.
