M-1050 Class Landing Craft

Page history last edited by Michael 13 years ago

back to the Index, or the M-1040 page

A medium, general-purpose military orbit-to-surface vehicle of the old Federation, probably Index 6 or 7. The 2,300 cubic meter vehicle bay can carry about 6 assault sleds or armor sleds, or cargo up to 150 tons mass; there are large clamshell doors at each end of the bay, wide enough for two vehicles side-by-side. It is only moderately armed, with three gun turrets and two point-defense lasers; chaff and flare dispensers are normally fitted. The hull provides 20 points of armor.

It has a mass of 245 tons when fully loaded; it is 32 meters long, 12 meters wide and 9 meters high. The 1,225 megawatt fusion reactor can operate a full power for 22 hours with the normal supply of 9 tons of boron aboard; the grav-pressor drive produces about 2G of thrust, as does the distortion drive. Cruise speed in atmosphere is 800 kph; top speed is 900 kph. The minimal crew was 4 officers (2 pilots, a flight engineer, and a weapons officer) and 3 enlisted men (2 loadmasters and a crew chief), along with a dozen robots; up to 22 crew were carried for some missions. Configured with seats as pure infantry carrier, it can carry 170 troops; as a casualty transport, about 85 litters. It is not intended for long-endurance flights, and the crew quarters are very spartan; it does not carry transition harnesses, cryo berths, interstellar navigation systems, or supplies for multi-week voyages. The computer and robots are capable of operating the ship without supervision at a minimal level.
