Game Rules and Effects

Concepts and Incorporated Systems

This game uses rules and concepts from Runequest (2nd Edition), Call of Cthulhu (5.5 edition), Delta Green, Basic Roleplaying, The Morrow Project, and The Morrow Project Role Playing Expansion. See also the information at the ASMRB website for the Pulp Adventure and Haerth role-playing games.

Get a character sheet ready.

Determine Background

Here's where the player says something like, "Okay, my guy was a computer programmer, he was able to afford college due to the GI bill. He was in the Army for a while, in the early Eighties, as a tank crewman and cavalry scout. He was a Civil War re-enactor for a while, and was in the SCA as a fighter after leaving the Army." In most cases, the referee will let the players know what kind of team they're generating characters for - Recon, Science, MARS, etc..

Determining Primary Characteristics

choose gender

The Project overall is about 20% women, though before 1982 or so it was less than 10% women. Recon teams are about 10% female, Science teams about 30% female, MARS teams around 1% female.

generate characteristics based on this table:

for members of Recon teams

STR, SIZ, INT:  roll 2d6+6 for each

female characters:  subtract 2 from SIZ

Minimum STR is 8

Minimum SIZ is 5 for females, 6 for males

CON, DEX, APP, POW:  roll 3d6 for each

female characters:  add 2 to CON

EDU:  roll 3d6+3, raise any result below 13 to 13. Minimum 13.

for members of Science and Engineer teams

STR, SIZ, INT:  roll 2d6+6 for each

female characters:  subtract 2 from SIZ

Minimum STR is 8

Minimum SIZ is 5 for females, 6 for males

CON, DEX, APP, POW:  roll 3d6 for each

female characters:  add 2 to CON

EDU:  roll 3d6+3, raise any result below 16 to 16. Minimum 16.

for members of MARS teams

STR:  roll 2d6+8, raise any result below 14 to 14. Minimum STR is 14.

CON, SIZ, DEX, INT:  roll 2d6+6 for each

female characters:  subtract 2 from SIZ

female characters:  add 2 to CON

Minimum SIZ is 5 for females, 6 for males

APP, POW:  roll 3d6 for each

EDU:  roll 3d6+3, raise any result below 13 to 13. Minimum 13.

for all other MP personnel

SIZ, INT:  roll 2d6+6

female characters:  subtract 2 from SIZ

Minimum SIZ is 5 for females, 6 for males

STR, CON, POW, DEX, APP:  roll 3d6 for each

female characters:  add 2 to CON

EDU:  roll 2d6+8, raise any result below 13 to 13. Minimum 13.

The player may move up to 5 points around between characteristics. No characteristic may be adjusted to less than 6 (except females may be SIZ 5) or greater than 21 (except females may not exceed SIZ 18); EDU and STR can't be reduced below the minimum for the team type. Minimum age is (initial EDU)+6 years; for every whole 10 years in excess of this minimum, you may add 1 point to EDU. There are reductions to characteristics for starting characters above age 40, but that probably won't come up for the Project. Remember, this is for generating selected, trained members of the Morrow Project, and is not representative of all humanity!

Blood points represent the total volume of blood in your body when healthy -- 1 Blood Point is 0.1 liter of blood. Specifically, blood is 8% of body weight, if you want to calculate a more specific value. Donating more than 1/8 of your blood is considered a risk, so maximum "normal" donation is 1/4 of your BP total.

Hit Points -- the figure for total hit points is the average of CON and SIZ; it's not gonna be used very often after character generation. However, it is used to determine the hit points per location:
