Pulp Alcyon Gunboatback to Sea Transportation
The Greek Navy didn't go in for gunboats very much, being more "oceanic" than "riverine". There are a few gunboats or old torpedo boats in service in 1933 ... very old. The most likely ones were built in Germany in 1912-1913 as the Alcyon class, named in Greek service: Aigli, Alkyoni, Arethousa, Dafni, Doris, and Thetis.
Length 138' est, beam 16' est, 120 to 145 tons displacement. Top speed 24 knots, from 2000 HP steam turbine (when new). Armament 1 x 57mm gun, 1 x 37mm gun, (or perhaps 2 x 6 pdr QFG), 2 torpedo tubes. Crew: 25-30
The closest thing in appearance (seen above) is the Drazki, an old Bulgarian torpedo boat. |
