Pulp Freighterback to Sea Transportation
This is a small freighter, built circa 1928.
Length 280', beam 43', displacement 1858 tons, of which 1000 tons cargo max. Freeboatd (fully loaded) 12', draft (fully loaded) 20'. Speed 13 kts max from 900 HP triple-expansion steam engine; range 4000 nautical miles at 10 kts. Crew: 28 (captain, 3 mates, chief engineer, radioman, cook, steward, bosun, 10 engine room crew, 7 sailors).
No passenger accomodations are provided on this vessel, but it would be easy to imagine six cabins on the boat deck, moving the boats forward perhaps. The sailors and bosun are berthed in the f'o'csle, the engine crew in the aftercastle, and the officers, radioman, cook and steward midships. Two 23' lifeboats are carried.
The cargo hatches are each 20 feet wide and 15 feet long. The plan below is simplified and compressed.
