  • 2504: Appearance and widespread praise of great scientist Medchelli, inventor of many linear acceleration concepts and uses, including common railguns, and the Jumpstart drive.
  • 2520: after many inventions, Medchelli “goes postal” believing the human race is not worthy of such technological graces. He retreats to a stronghold and creates a large, mechanized army. Start of the 1st Great War. 3 million are killed by the robotic marauders.
  • 2543: after 20 long years of war, the rogue scientist is finally killed with a satellite assassin program. The machine armies are systematically destroyed and salvaged for useable tech. Anything useful is taken and utilized in the uplift of many larger nations.
  • 2560: large nations become overpowered and begin taking over the planet, consuming smaller countries in the process. Beginning of 2nd Great War; Medchelli is dead, but his legacy lives on, the children of his machines snuffing out millions of lives in intercontinental turf wars.
  • 2571: 2nd war ends when an object falls from space and obliterates the eastern half of Asia. The “object” is later determined to be an alien escape pod. Thirty beings were in stasis on board; all were killed by the impact. The pod is recovered and many new technologies are discovered, including advanced stasis field generators and inertial compensators, allowing travel at much faster speeds, making objects age at the same rate as the rest of the universe.
  • 2590: Earth is united, all wars are ceased at the knowledge that other sentient beings are out there. The construction of the first Hypervelocity station in orbit is begun. The station consists of a long barrel lined with electromagnets capable of launching an object out at .15 times the speed of light.
  • 2693: after 100 years, the station is finally completed, construction of colony ships is begun, volunteer colonists are selected for the ships. The first six colony ships were nothing more than bullets with shock absorbers and life support systems built in to be fired from the station.
  • 2714: October 6th. The big day. 6 ships are launched, never to return. Six planets are targeted, 2 are hit. Faith and Dawn reach their destinations, Mischievous is never seen again after launch, Leviathan and Monarch collide and are lost, and finally the Shasta has a fatal miscalculation and gets caught inside the station during launch, has a gash torn in her side and explodes upon contact with an asteroid. Many unmanned probes are also launched to worlds that are rich in resources to scan for atmosphere.
  • 2715: after the launch of the colony ships, Earth is left with few resources, and too many people who need them. At this time, colonies have been established on Mars and the Moon for mining purposes.
  • 2810: Starvation and poverty are all too common on earth now. People are dying, and there are no spare resources. Scientists are taking 20-hour shifts to try and find solutions for these problems, and to find cheap cures for the numerous diseases plaguing humanity in force.
  • 2842: breakthroughs are made, solutions are found, and disease is put in check. Asteroid mining and other extraterrestrial professions become common. At this time about 30 ships are privately owned, and about 100 more are in commission by the planetary government.
  • 2886: 3 more Hypervelocity stations have been built and have acquired the more common name of “Jumpstart drive”. These stations, however have been improved, and are now capable of firing ships out at about .9 times the speed of light, much more efficient than the original. Receiver stations are also in development, they use powerful magnetic fields to slow incoming ships down and help them dock safely without collisions. A colony ship is built and/or launched every few months. The failure rate, however, is around 98%.
  • 2890: after so many deaths due to colony ship “accidents” shipbuilding company Vulcan-Whitworth designs a new colony ship with terraforming technologies integrated into the ship. The new ship has a special landing device that flattens the area beneath the ship as it hits land. It also carries heavy duty atmosphere generators that can make a planet’s atmosphere breathable in about 8 months. Many parts of the ship are also useable by colonists, hull plate as roofs, structural components as assorted tools.
  • 2893: first of new colony ships is launched, it is a complete success, and planet Muir is claimed by the human race.
  • 2900: 3 more planets have been colonized by Vulcan-Whitworth ships, the human race has entered a golden age. Currently, over 300 ships are in private use with well over 1000 in government and business use. Planet Muir now is a hub of commerce, importing and exporting goods to and from earth. It currently has a receiving station, and a Jumpstart drive is under construction.
    • 2903, colony ship Faith: ((systems check; speed,normal; direction,2.3 degree alteration; life support anomaly detected…))
    • 2903, colony ship Dawn: ((navigational systems engaged; foreign body detected… taking evasive maneuvers… object in pursuit aft of ship, no protocol… maintaining course to Reach…))
  • 2903:Earth receives strange messages from colony ships headed to planets Hope and Reach, records show that it was most likely to be a mechanical defect, after all, they were the poorly made ships, and they were 200 years old…
  • 2936: A new form of communication is discovered, dubbed “Supralight” it allows for almost instantaneous reception of transmissions anywhere in the galaxy. The company that developed it, Anlawd, is appointed to the department of communications for all planets. Standard radio communication equipment is replaced with Supralight for all government and business uses. At this point, the original colony ships have been forgotten.
  • 2950; Planets Arcterra and Phendrana are now up to speed with Earth, they each have at least one Jumpstart drive and multiple receiver nodes, and are exporting large amounts of resources back to Earth. Meanwhile, planet Metonite has successfully started off as an extremely industrial world, building hundreds of nuclear fusion reactors across their planet, giving off untold amounts of radiation into the stars.
  • 3000: The millennium is celebrated across human space, but on Metonite? An attack is made. Apparently, non-sentient life also travels the stars, as planet Metonite was attacked by space-faring moths. They were called the Magnafex, 8 foot bugs that search the stars for sources of electromagnetic radiation. It is thought that they live inside stars and will hunt down anything giving off radiation within a 10 light minute radius from their home star. Fortunately for Metonite, they are not carnivorous, but all of the planet’s precious reactors were devoured, along with a few of the humans who got in the way.
  • 3002: Magnafexes are now catalogued, and nearby stars of other human planets are checked for them. All potential colonies in the future will be checked out for them. Metonite has changed its ways, and now minimizes any source of radiation by becoming a low-tech world. The planet now has a receiving station and a Jumpstart drive. Both are made of natural magnets, therefore eliminating the need of massive power sources for electromagnets, but also halving the capacity of both stations.
  • 3017: Earth declares itself to be the governing body of all the colonies, and decides the planets now need a standard currency and law enforcement body.
  • 3020: The birth of the UEF (United Earth Federation)
  • 3025: Sienar Fleet systems is hired by the UEF to build a fleet of patrol and battle craft that could be used to police entire star systems
  • 3030-3100; Humanity’s second wave of expansion, 15 more colonies are formed; (to be named later)
  • 3153: The Earth Federation is now functioning very well, with each of its 20 planets performing a key part in the whole federation, from mining, to fleet design and construction, to being nothing more than a population to draw from.
  • 3217: arrival of the 2 original colony ships (about 6 or 7 months between the two)
  • 3230: first exchange of transmissions between the colonies. (The subject was simply confirming that the other had arrived, asking if Earth had contacted them and why they hadn’t)
  • 3290a: The fall of Reach.
  • 3290b: Earth remembers about the original colonies, and begins putting ancient radio systems back on the air. The final transmission from Reach is received, along with many admonitions from Hope. Hope is brought back up to speed with what’s going on back on earth.
  • 3291: The Federation sends patrol craft to both Hope and Reach, to defend Hope, and to learn of Reach’s fate.
  • 3292: The ship dispatched to Reach is destroyed from unknown causes. The ship to Hope enters upper orbit above the planet and awaits further orders from Earth.
  • 3295: Hope begins to harbor distrust for the Earth Federation since the original colonies were forgotten about, and that Reach’s destruction could have been prevented, and decides to form its own society, free from the tyranny of Earth. Many large anti-ship installations are built on the planet’s surface, and all citizens are given weapons and training in combat. Earth assumes that this is simply preparation for an alien invasion.
  • 3299: strange readings are taken on Hope by the UEF ship in orbit, certain forms of radiation have been increasing rapidly.
  • 3307: A movement begins on Hope to change the planet’s name to New Sparta to better fit the more militaristic lifestyle of its inhabitants. The EF reluctantly agrees to allow the planet’s name to be changed.
  • 3308: The radiation readings on New Sparta continue to increase at a higher rate.
  • 3315: at this point in time, New Sparta is a planet bristling with so many weapons, it could potentially destroy Earth and the colonies with ease. Now, they start to build a fleet.
  • 3317: In 2 short years, the Spartan fleet has swelled to almost 3 times the size of the Earth Federation’s fleet.
  • 3320: The Earth federation begins to worry about the size of the Spartan fleet and their motivations to construct such a large military. The order to produce a full-size defense fleet for Earth is made.
  • 3338: Leon Schlotsky is named leader of New Sparta. He begins to call himself Leonidas.
  • 3340a: A sizeable fleet is completed to defend Earth.
  • 3340b: Radiation levels on New Sparta peak at almost lethal levels. The ship stationed above the planet contacts Earth at about the same time it is destroyed by a shipkiller weapon from the planet’s surface.
  • 3340c: Leonidas contacts Earth and informs them that the Spartans don’t work for them anymore, see? Earth declares a state of emergency and puts the fleet on alert status. 2 battlecruisers are sent to New Sparta, both are obliterated upon arrival.
  • 3341: A scout ship is sent to New Sparta, there is no evidence of a planet ever having been there, the Spartan fleet is AWOL as well. The only thing within 10 light minutes is some highly radioactive asteroids and the wreckage of 2 UEF battlecruisers. Earth fleet is put on higher alert.
  • 3343: A Spartan ship appears on Earth’s doorstep without warning. This is the battle that gives Phaazoids their name. It is also the battle when Faazite is discovered in its corrupt form.
  • 3345: Patrick Gardner makes his discovery of caffeinated Faazite, and the Phase drive is in its preliminary stages.
  • 3349: The UEF has managed to collect enough Faazite to make Phase drives for about 50% of its navy and a few civilian ships for wealthy merchants, who after purchasing Faazite, weren’t so wealthy anymore…
  • 3350: Neurocircuitry is perfected; any human can have a low-grade neurocomputer put in their brain for about $300. Neurocomputers can do anything from assist in memorization, to make precise motor movements for the host.
  • 3357: The first concepts of cymeks are created in secret. They are planned to have huge neurocomputers, but small brains. They are planned to be the future of the military, as both the soldiers, and the officers.
  • 3366: The first Cymeks are made. They are deemed an overwhelming success and thousands more are made from specially bred human bodies. Many religious leaders openly oppose them and treat them like computers and nothing more.
  • 3368: the Cymeks begin to get very tired of this poor treatment and resort to violent acts and vandalism.
  • 3370: After more attacks against them, the Cymeks hire a large ship, and every single one of them leaves Earth to go to Tallon.
  • 3373: The Cymeks Have built up a large civilization on Tallon and have begun to research ways to get back at the humans. The humans are almost completely oblivious to the imminent retaliation.
  • 3375: The Cymeks have found some large deposit of resources on Tallon, and they have started building an army which has already proven to be more than a match for UEF border patrols in previous skirmishes.
  • 3376: Our brave adventuring heroes… need to finish creating their characters…
