SpaceHero Political Groupsback to the SpaceHero index
Sirian Principality
Covering a volume of space approximately 500 light years (Terran measure) in diameter. The Principality controls about 200 notable worlds in some degree or other, almost all populated by humans or ara-humans. The only non-human race common to the Principality are the slug-like Vruth, who are instinctive mechanics and electricians and haven’t a brave – er – bone in their bodies. The Vruth are native to one of the worlds of the Principality; which world is not common knowledge. Sirian technology is based on Core Empire technology of more than 1500 years ago. While no real scientific breakthroughs have been developed since, competition from the non-human worlds has kept them current or ahead of the cutting edge of Orion Arm technology.
Bavanii Confederation
Larger than the Principality, the Confederation contains few worlds which match the Sirians' technical expertise. The Ruling Congress of the Bavanii has a long-standing hands-off policy for native cultures that have not yet developed space travel technology. This has led to many worlds being exploited by Bavanii warlords who ignore the strictures and can keep the usually honest and dedicated (and underfunded) Bavanii Rangers at arm’s length.
Vrogan League
Covering nearly a quarter of the Galactic Rim, the League is second in power to the Core Worlds. All member worlds of the League are high-technology cultures, and the lead culture of the League, the Vrogans, are psychic engineers originally developed by the Imperials as “cold world” advisers. Like the more general-purpose human agents, the Vrogans joined the Rim Rebellion and rapidly gained power within it. They are thought to be one of the main fomenters of the anti-human mindset of much of the Orion Arm races. Whether this is because they have an actual grievance against human Imperial agents, or just see humans as their main competitor is a good question.
Core Worlds Empire
The Empire ruled the entire Rim of the Galaxy for over 60,000 years. It is still firmly in control of the core stars of the Galaxy and occasional members make forays into the cold space regions for their own enigmatic reasons. Whether the Empire consists of several energy based races, or all come from the same original world or circumstance is unknown. Their bodies are entirely energy-based and there is no DNA to track ....
Rim Federation
The Federation is the descendant of an anti-Core rebel movement. The Rebellion originated amongst the Rim, where suns are fewer and Imperial interests less likely to surface. The original inhabitants were refugees from Imperial worlds closer to the core. The Federation is one of the few other organizations willing to accept humans as citizens and working members of the Federation. Several prominent ara-humans are established there.
Mech Centrality
The Centrality is an expansionist culture of machine intelligences. Who started them working is an unanswered question, as is the question of who or what their ultimate leader(s) are. Among their agents encountered by Sirian agents have been machine-worshipping races and cults, cyborg assassins, and killer robots masquerading as living beings and common appliances. The Centrality is considered a major menace to the peace of the Galaxy, not just the Orion Arm.
Glarrik Space
The Glarrik control a wide span of space adjacent to the Sirian Principality. Some of the systems of note in nearby Glarrik space include: Igrakon, Shurata, and Yun. Nothing is really known about Glarrik government, though any representatives spoken to act as representatives of all Glarriks. No internecine warfare between Glarriks has been observed. |
