Background
He's an elementary school teacher, born and raised in Oklahoma. His family ran a gravel pit; he was driving trucks and frontloaders from the age of 13. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a football scholarship, playing under coach Barry Switzer. He injured his knee in 1982, ending his college football career.
To pay for his expenses after 1982, he took a job as a truck driver for Tyson Foods, mostly in the summers. After he got his degree, he spent a year teaching grade school in Los Angeles, and was then approached by the Morrow Project.
He's one-quarter Cherokee.
