narrative description
|
Enlisted in the army in 1971; his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering could not find him a job because of poor people skills, failed to get through OCS, was banished to the 'special repairs' shop for the 18th Engineer Brigade (activated 1977 at Karlsruhe, Germany), where he spent time scavenging radios, computers, and oddball electronics for use in the field. Likes heavy weapons, hates hand to hand despite his strength: he's too slow. Computer nerd, early version (pre personal computers), radio ham.
He was approached by Cadillac-Gage in 1977 for employment as an engineer; recruitment into the Project itself came shortly afterwards. He spend a couple of years designing systems for depots and perhaps Prime Base, while being trained in the skills needed to join a Recon team. In 1980, he "dropped out" of society, and was placed in cryosleep. He only knew he'd be on a Recon team -- not which team, or with what sort of vehicle, or in what part of the country. His training in some of the later Project equipment -- specifically, the Gull hovercraft -- is lacking.
