Cape guns are popular in southern Africa, where a wide variety of game might be encountered. They are a variety of "combination gun", with two side-by-side barrels -- one shotgun, one rifle. Separate triggers fire the barrels; some may have a set trigger for the rifle barrel, for extra accuracy. Almost every combination of calibers and gauges have been made -- even before cartridge guns were in use -- but the most common varieties currently produced are:
.303" rifle barrel (carbine length), alongside a 12 gauge shotgun barrel. Wt: 9 lbs Price: £6
"long hunting rifle" barrel, alongside a 12 gauge shotgun; heavier and a bit more expensive. Wt: 10 lbs Price: £8.
We're simplifying a complicated field here, since the Space: 1889 system doesn't have a large range of calibers and gauges described in detail.
