Amah

Also ayah. A female "native" servant. In common use in India and Asia.

Boy

A male servant.

Muck and truck

The trade in commodities other than the staples of commerce.

Shroff

A silver expert whose business it is to detect bad coins. The expression "shroff the dollars" means to examine them for bad ones. Every large mercantile establishment and every bank employs a shroff, who is responsible for the money taken in and paid out by the firm.

Squeeze

A commission on purchases or sales or other transactions, partaking of the character of what Americans call "graft".

Tiffin

A Persian word meaning mid-day meal or luncheon. Commonly used among foreigners in China.
