A note on "rate of fire" (ROF):

  • ROF burst: use the Attack major action.

  • ROF 1:  use the Attack major action.

  • ROF 1 or burst:  use the Attack major action.

  • ROF 2:  use the Attack major action, and the Second Attack minor action.

  • ROF 2 or burst:  use either Attack major action and Second Attack minor action for two single shots, or just one Attack if firing a burst.

  • ROF 1 per X rounds:   use the Reload major action X-1 times, then the Attack major action.

Also, the various "burst" rates include the rate one step slower ... so a weapon capable of "long burst" can also fire "burst".

Armbrust 300 Rocket Launcher

A disposable single-shot rocket launcher; the 66mm diameter rocket has a high-explosive shaped-charge warhead which can penetrate 30 cm of RHA steel (83 pts armor). The design eliminates (most) firing noise (it's about as loud as a hammer striking a steel tube) and (all) flash; the "backblast" of the weapon is made up from plastic flakes, and the weapon can be safely fired from only 1 meter in front of a wall or person. Arming distance is 10 meters; maximum range is 1000 meters over level ground. Against tanks, 350 meters is the maximum effective range. The sight is mounted on the left side of the launch tube, and the weapon thus must be fired "right handed". Weight 6.3 kg including sling; length of launcher 82 cm. A plastic case of 9 launchers weighs 70 kg including contents, and has a volume of 100 liters.

No matter your skill with the weapon, you cannot exceed these chances to hit.

Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm also developed other warhead versions:  fragmentation-high explosive, and illuminating. These are certainly not general issue among Recon teams. The Armbrust was first revealed about 1976, and was in series production by 1979.

  • Effective range 30 meters (against human targets), ROF 1, malfunction 99+. The weapon skill used is Direct Fire Weapon.

HAFLA-35L

Also kinown as the DM 34 Mod 35mm. A disposable 35mm single-shot launcher, firing an incendiary shell out to a maximum range of 80 meters. A pivoting plastic handgrip is fitted to one end of the cardboard launch tube, and a plastic cover to the other end. To fire, a safety button is depressed, the handgrip is pivoted outwards to a fully locked position, and then the trigger can be pulled, firing the shell through the plastic cap. The red phosphorus filling of the shell bursts  two seconds after being launched, covering an area 10 meters wide and 15 meters long with fragments; the fragments burn at 1300° C for two minutes 40 seconds. Weight 0.625 kg; the incendiary charge weighs 0.310 kg. Overall length of the launcher is 44.5 cm.

Normally issued in a waterproof plastic bag holding three launchers (total mass 1.9 kg); the bag has serrations between the pouches holding the individual launchers, so the user can remove one without exposing the others to damp, dirt, etc.. A wooden crate holds four plastic bags, i.e. twelve launchers; weight of crate with launchers, 9 kg, volume of crate 7 liters.

The cardboard tubes aren't very waterproof.

  • Effective range 5 meters, ROF 1, malfunction 99+. The weapon skill used is Grenade Launcher.

    • Damage in actual contact is 3d6; otherwise within the burst zone, 4d2. Roll separate locations for each die of damage taken, and each must penetrate armor individually. If the fragments were able to stick to, penetrate, or embed in the target, they continue to do their damage every other round for five rounds total (that is, three times over five rounds).

      • The fragments don't stick to or embed in hard armor or fireproof/fire resistant armor (they either penetrate or fall off). Phosphorus is (for damage calculations anyhow) extinguished under water, but will re-ignite when dry.

      • Breathing the heavy smoke within the burst radius requires a CONx5% roll each round, or you're coughing, puking, rubbing your eyes, or otherwise incapable that round.

M202A1 Incendiary Rocket Launcher

A four-barrel reloadable rocket launcher, also known as the "Flash". The ammunition comes in M74 clips of four rockets; the empty launcher weighs 5.175 kg with sling and sight, and a full clip weighs 6.75 kg. The rockets use the same motor as the M72A2 LAW, and have the same backblast cone:  30 degrees wide and about 30 meters length. Rockets are fired singly, with a delay of at least one second between firings; they are filled with 0.61 kg of TPA ("thickened pyrophoric agent" = triethylaluminum), and burst over an area of about 15 meters radius. The warhead arms after 10 meters travel, however minimum safe distance is considered to be 20 meters due to splash hazards. Even if the fuze does not function upon impact, the round may burst open and self-ignite at any range. The TPA filling ignites upon exposure to oxygen, and burns at 1000 degrees Celsius for 40 seconds; do not allow the rockets to be damaged by gunfire. The rocket can penetrate light doors, windows, or a sheet of plywood at ranges of less than 100 meters.

The four-rocket M74 clips are packed in a polystyrene two-part case, wrapped with tape; six cases are is packed in a cardboard box, which is filled with vermiculate as padding. Weight of cardboard box, 42 kg; volume of cardboard box, 40 liters.

A very important note:  since triethylaluminum will spontaneously ignite if exposed to air, any damage to stored M74 clips must be entirely avoided.

  • Effective range 30 meters, ROF 1, malfunction 99+. The weapon skill used is Direct Fire Weapon.

M67 Recoilless Rifle

A man-portable anti-tank weapon which can be fired from its built-in bipod, or from the shoulder (the bipod legs fold forward together to create a shoulder rest).

The Project issues HEAT and canister ammunition for the weapon. Note that none of the issued types of ammunition actually use the rifling built into the barrel.

There is a dangerous backblast behind the weapon when fired:  the danger zone is 15 meters long and 50 meters wide; and then a further 15 meters straight back from the weapon. The weapon cannot be safely fired from inside a vehicle or other confined spaces, or with an obstruction behind the breech.

The weapon barrel will be painfully hot after firing three rounds; after rapidly firing five rounds, the danger of cooking-off a loaded round increases (Army policy is to cease fire for 15 minutes after rapid-fire of five rounds).

The 3x telescopic sight has a lighted reticle, which uses one MP-AA battery; the sight is mounted on the left side of the weapon, which thus has to be fired "right handed". Weight with sling, empty 15.8 kg; canvas muzzle and breech covers, 0.3 kg; tool and spares roll, 0.5 kg; ammunition carrying strap (for up to 3 rounds), 0.2 kg. An adapter for mounting the PVS-4 Starlight scope is included in some kits.

The tool and spares kit includes two simple spanner wrenches, an extractor/screwdriver combo tool, a screwdriver, a small coil of safety wire, a small bottle of lubricant, a cleaning cloth, a spare bulb for the sight lamp, a headspace gauge, and a bore brush.

    • ROF 1 per 2 rounds with a trained loader (1 per 3 rounds if the gunner is working alone), malfunction on a 98+. Most common malfunction:  cooking off if more than 3 rounds fired quickly; otherwise, misadjusted firing cable or broken firing pin. Most common fumble:  forgetting to set the loader's safety to FIRE. The weapon skill used is Direct Fire Weapon.

sample crate markings for 90mm ammunition

  • M371A1 HEAT:  this cartridge fires a fin-stabilized shaped-charge round, for use against armored targets. Mass of complete round 4.2 kg; the shaped charge contains 0.78 kg of Composition B explosive. Military issue is two rounds in fiberboard tubes, placed in a wooden ammo box with a loaded weight of 21 kg. Minimum arming range 20 meters, effective range 400 meters, absolute maximum range 2100 meters. Penetration 35cm RHA steel .

    • Effective range 30 meters against a stationary, man-sized target. Blast damage 6d6, -1d6 per 3 meters; maximum penetration 95 points of armor. Double the damage to the target if penetration occurs.

  • M591 HE:  this explosive round uses a modified M374 81mm mortar round in a plastic sabot (the actual round is fin-stabilized); keep in mind that the M67 does not have an indirect fire sight. Mass of complete round 6.033 kg; explosive filling is 1 kg of Composition B, contained in a cast-iron body. Military issue is two rounds in fiberboard tubes, placed in a wooden ammo box with a loaded weight of 20 kg. Minimum arming range 30 meters, effective range 400 meters, absolute maximum range 2100 meters. The fuze is the M567 (SQ/impact or delay) model; on delay setting, the round will penetrate an ordinary house roof before exploding.

    • Effective range 30 meters against a stationary, man-sized target. A shell set to delay fusing will penetrate about 5 points of armor. Blast damage 8d6, -1d6 per 4 meters. Chance of a 2d6 fragment hit = miss a POWx2% at 2 meters, POWx3% at 4 meters, POWx4% at 6 meters (max penetration 12), POWx5% at 8 meters, etc. out to 20 meters. Note the fragment is a single "object".

  • M590E1 canister:  filled with 2400 low-drag fin-stabilized steel flechettes, each with a weight of 0.5 grams, and 1.8 kg of propellant. Mass of complete round 3.08 kg, length of complete round 48 cm. Military issue is two rounds in fiberboard tubes, placed in a wooden ammo box with a loaded weight of 20 kg. Maximum range 300 meters, though a few flechettes may fly as far as 400 meters; they disperse in a solid cone angle of 8 degrees.

    • User skill is doubled, but only used to test the chance of a fumble or malfunction. The weapon itself provides a 100% skill level with an effective range of 100 meters, which cannot be increased by sights, posture, etc.. (though the chance to hit can be decreased by wounds, darkness, or other distractions). The conical danger space is 7 meters wide for every 50 meters distant from the muzzle. If the to-hit roll succeeds at less than 50 meters away, roll 1d10 for the number of hits; 51 to 100 meters away, the target takes 1d3 hits; beyond that, only 1 hit. Damage per hit is 1d6, maximum armor penetration is 4 points.

M72A1 LAW Rocket Launcher

A lightweight, disposable single-shot rocket launcher; the 66mm diameter rocket has a high-explosive shaped-charge warhead which can penetrate 28 cm of RHA steel . Backblast from firing the rocket causes a danger area in the form of a cone 30 degrees wide and about 30 meters length; the weapon should not be fired from within enclosed spaces.
