E4 Vehicles and Vehicle Equipment
Page history

back to Engineer Team E-4 or the E-4 bunker, or E4 team equipment, or the Index
These are the vehicles assigned to Engineer Team E-4, along with the equipment normally part of the vehicles.
Vehicles
Overland Train
One Overland Train, in the central hall of the bunker; it's composed of 2 control cars, 5 "boxcar" payload cars, 3 "flatcar" payload cars, 1 crane car, and 1 repair module; it's about 192 meters long.
Note that the team's backhoe is shown loaded onto one of the flatcars here.
Other Vehicles
-
four amphibious electric ATVs (Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snork), with two trailers; a total of 20 flanged, and 8 un-flanged ("blind") railway wheels are available
"Don't try this. But if you do, let me know so I can watch." - P.F.Colton
-
two Allis-Chalmers electric forklifts, capacity 4000 kg. Unloaded weight 6 tons (much of which is counterweight), width 1.4 meters, length 4 meters, ground clearance 12 cm. These are not fusion powered -- 100 Project vehicle batteries drive it. The tires are solid rubber -- not pneumatic -- and the Project expected they could be left on the forklift (if jacked up) for at least a couple of decades.
-
two Allis-Chalmers electric pallet trucks, capacity 2 tons
-
an electric loader-backhoe (Rubber Duck)
The following trailer-mounted items shouldn't be towed behind Overland Train modules except in emergencies. They can all be carried on one or more Overland Train flat cars.
-
air compressor, trailer-mounted; has some Project vehicle batteries for a few hours of operation
-
welding set, trailer-mounted. Note there's also a smaller welding set on the repair car.
The vehicles and trailers which are not on, or part of, the Overland Train, require about 500 square meters of floor space; each of the side chambers is 324 square meters, so these need about 1-1/3 of the side chambers for "parking".
Overland Train Equipment
All of this stuff starts out aboard, or installed in, each of the team's control cars. The team also has one (1) trade pack.

ARN-89 radio direction finder; it provides a relative bearing of the direction from which an incoming radio signal is being detected. The bearing is displayed on a compass-type dial indicator, and is also fed to the AutoNav to be displayed on the map. Frequency range: 100 kilohertz to 3 megahertz. Power is from the vehicle.
|
1
|
PSC-3 satellite radio; the antenna is mounted on the sensor mast, but can be removed
|
1
|
PRC-70 manpack radio; uses "radio battery" or vehicle power

#3 "aid bag" with three zippered pockets. It contains a minor surgical field instrument set, EMT shears, 24 field dressings (0.1 kg each), compresses, gauze, band-aids, sunburn cream, two tourniquets, a splint, and other minor stuff. Game effects: the use of First Aid skill allows this set to be used for the treatment of 12 minor or major wounds. It's not much use in case of amputations or massive blood loss.

The four six-wheeled ATVs are Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snork. Of course.
