Dillen Makurrin fighter version

Page history last edited by Michael 4 years, 6 months ago

Dillen Makurrin was sent by his (low level) noble family to attend the University of Orlais. His father instructed him to uphold his rank (for his own sake and for the sake of his friends and relatives); accept no slight from anyone (except a monarch, anyone he’s sworn fealty to, Baron Bodissey, and members of the Chantry); seek adventure, and fear no quarrel or duel. He's not a great student, but is an avid duelist, and will accept any "adventure" that doesn't seem grossly immoral or ignoble (or interrupt his schooling for too long). His family isn't rich, and he's quickly becoming more fond of good living than a devoted student should be, so the "job board" is as good a place as any to find adventures. He did receive excellent instruction in swordplay, archery, and other "arts of the noble soldier" from his family, but he's a provincial in either nation. Part of his training was “searching dragon nests”, a traditional sport or competition for young men.

His "course of study" so far was chosen by his parents ("... and we wish to enroll him in the ancient and honored school for the scions of noble lineage, that he may learn rhetoric, oratory, dialectics, music, ethics, philosophy, geometry, astronomy, art, languages and all topics proper for any who would appear at Court ... "). Baron Bodissey is an old but distant friend of Dillen’s father in Val Royeaux, who could be of as much or as little assistance (or trouble) as the referee sees fit -- Dillen’s parents haven’t met the Baron in nearly 20 years, and Dillen has of course never met the man.

Appearance:  He’s a tall, handsome clean-shaven fellow, with red hair and blue-gray eyes. His Orlesian and Trade have a Nevarran accent.

Goals:  complete a degree at the University; gain a reputation; slay a dragon.

Tiesparents back in Nevarra (Bruno and Sylvie); Baron Bodissey; fellow students (i.e. the other player-characters)

Talents

    • Attractive (Novice):

    • Single Weapon Style (Novice:  use Activate minor action to gain +1 Defense to end of encounter while using this style)

    • Archery Style (Novice:  Aim gives +2),

    • Armor Training (Novice:  leather and mail don’t affect Defense or Move)

    • Quick Reflexes (Novice: can use Ready as a free action once per round)

Defense14 (no shield, no armor penalty currently)

Speed14 (no armor penalty currently) - thus move 14 yards, charge and attack 7 yards, run 28 yards

Weapon Groups:  brawling, bows, heavy blades, polearms
Languages:  he can speak, read and write Orlesian and Trade

Equipment:  he can carry 55 pounds without any penalty

Around the city:  sword with scabbard and sword-belt, student robe (6 sp), party clothes (hat, breeches, shirt, vest, cloak, shoes = 6 sp, none particularly fashionable), student supplies (ink, quill pen, pen knife, 25 sheets of paper, writing-board, glowstone, sealing ring = 8 sp), wine (5 cheap = 1 sp). His purse contains coins worth 3 silver.

For travel he has: light leather armor (AR 3), traveling clothes, a backpack, 10 yards of rope (6 sp), a waterskin, a long bow, a quiver with 20 arrows, a halberd (25 sp), a lesser healing poultice (he calls it the “balm”, 1 sp), along with the recipe for “Lesser Healing Poultice”, and a dose of Hale’s Mercy (2 sp).

He came to Val Royeau with a rather slow pony, which he sold to a farmer outside the city when he realized how silly and expensive the animal would be at the city. Dillen can ride in an ordinary way, but there was no local jousting tradition in the canton he grew up in.

His rent and tuition are paid by his family.

Player outlook in game mechanics:  regarding combat, obtain the Polearm focus and the Weapon and Shield Style talent; much later perhaps various mounted combat foci and Talents -- or a more duellist-oriented set of skills.
