Dillen's pictures created using Black Desert Remastered

Dillen Makurrin has been sent by his (low level) noble family to attend the University of Orlais. His father instructed him to uphold his rank (for his own sake and for the sake of his friends and relatives); accept no slight from anyone (except a monarch, anyone he’s sworn fealty to, and members of the Chantry); seek adventure, and fear no quarrel or duel. He's not a great student, but is an avid duelist, and will accept any "adventure" that doesn't seem grossly immoral or ignoble (or interrupt his schooling for too long). His family isn't rich, so the "job board" is as good a place as any to find adventures. He did receive excellent instruction in swordplay, archery, and other "arts of the noble soldier" from his family, but he's a provincial in either nation. Part of his training was “searching dragon nests”, a traditional sport or competition for young men.

His "course of study" has been initially chosen by his parents ("... and we wish to enroll him in the ancient and honored school for the scions of noble lineage, that he may learn rhetoric, oratory, dialectics, music, ethics, philosophy, geometry, astronomy, art, languages and all topics proper for any who would appear at Court ... ").

Appearance:  he’s a tall, handsome clean-shaven fellow, with red hair and blue-gray eyes. His Orlesian and Trade have a Nevarran accent.

Age and Birthdate: he was born in the year 9:10 Dragon, and is now 18 years of age.

Goals:  complete a degree at the University; gain a reputation; slay a dragon.

Level:  5, human male rogue (Orlesian Student background)

Specialization:  Duelist (unlocked)

Experience Points:  not tracked in this campaign

Health:  46

Class Powers:

    • Back stab: You must approach your opponent with a move action. Then you must win an opposed test of your Dexterity (Stealth) vs. your target’s Perception (Seeing). If you win the test, you can use your major action this round to Backstab him. This is an attack with a +2 bonus to the attack roll that inflicts +1d6 extra damage. You cannot Backstab an enemy that you begin your turn adjacent to (but see the Bluff power at level 4).

    • Rogue’s Armor: You can ignore the Armor Penalty of leather armor altogether. It affects neither your Speed nor your Dexterity.

    • Stunt Bonus:  You can perform the Pierce Armor stunt for 1 SP instead of the usual 2.

    • Heavy Blades:  long swords are always "untrained" for rogues: thus he takes a  –2 penalty on attack rolls and inflicts half damage (rounded down) when using his longsword. When halving damage, add your Strength before cutting the damage in half. Note his focus in Heavy Blades partly offsets this penalty.

Talents

    • Duelist (Novice):  When in the Dual Weapon Style and using a melee weapon that uses DEX, you gain both +1 on your attack rolls and +1 Defense vs. melee attacks.

    • Dual Weapon Style (Novice):  Can fight with a one-hand weapon in each hand; the secondary has Min STR 2 higher than listed. At the novice level, he can use an Activate action to gain either +1 Defense (vs. melee only) or +1 Attack (melee only) till the end of the encounter. The bonus can be switched (e.g., offense for defense) with another Activate action.

    • Scouting (Novice):  If you fail a Dexterity (Stealth) test, you can re-roll it, but you must keep the results of the second roll.

    • Quick Reflexes (Novice): can use Ready as a free action once per round.

    • Unarmed Style (Novice):  when you attack with your fist, you inflict 1d6 damage instead of 1d3.

Defense14 (no shield, no armor penalty currently), potentially 15 if he activates Dual Weapon Mode for defense

Speed14 (no armor penalty currently) - thus move 14 yards, charge and attack 7 yards, run 28 yards

Weapon Groups:  brawling, bows, light blades, staves, dueling weapons
Languages:  he can speak, read and write Orlesian and Trade

Equipment:  he can carry 55 pounds without any penalty

Around the city:  student robe (6 sp), "best" clothes (hat, breeches, shirt, vest, cloak, shoes = 6 sp, none particularly fashionable), a glowstone in a small leather tube. His purse contains coins worth less than one silver.

For travel he has: fancy rapier and main gauche with scabbards and sword-belt, dagger, light leather armor (AR 3), traveling clothes, a backpack, 10 yards of rope (6 sp), a waterskin, a long bow, a quiver with 20 arrows, a lesser healing poultice (he calls it the “balm”, 1 sp), along with the recipe for “Lesser Healing Poultice”, and a dose of Hale’s Mercy (2 sp).

Things that rarely leave the campus:   student supplies (ink, quill pen, pen knife, 25 sheets of paper, writing-board, sealing ring), 5 cheap bottles of wine, his Nevarran long sword and scabbard. Dillen owns a "lucky beetle", which lives in a small brass cage. The beetle's name is Siegfried.

He came to Val Royeaux with a rather slow pony, but the journey made it clear to him how silly and expensive the animal would be at the city. Dillen can ride in an ordinary way, but there was no local jousting tradition in the canton he grew up in.

His rent and tuition are to be paid by his family. He has a letter of introduction to Lady Simone.
