back to the Index, or to Recon Team R40, or to Amy Iora

Family and Early Education

Amitola 'Amy' Iora was born in April of 1957 to Wilson and Chenoa Iora of Crow and Irish ancestry. As a child she was often seen as far too intelligent for her own good, teaching herself to read at the age of 4, and was rarely found without a book there after. By the age of 10 she was reading the scientific and engineering books her father often read, and while not possessed of a perfect photographic memory, her ability to digest and process information, even at a young age, was far beyond some adults.

Her family moved from Lodge Grass, Montana to Silver Springs, Maryland when she was 12, where she was enrolled into high school through placement tests at the age of 13, and graduated at 16.

Secondary Education

Straight out of high school she studied mechanical engineering (focusing on Hydroponic, Aeroponic and greenhouse systems construction) as well as Chemistry, while trying to figure out what she would do professionally. Upon graduating, she enrolled in Columbia University, where she furthered her studies, settling on learning as much as she could about life sciences and the similarities between them, where she lived in the dorms. Her eventual focus of study was with an eye towards becoming a doctor of medicine - along the way she studied Botany, Zoology, and furthered her understanding of Chemistry.

Project Recruitment

It was during her extended time at Columbia where she came to the attention of the Morrow project due to her level of intelligence and natural aptitude for the sciences. She was ‘recruited’ shortly before graduation via an interview from a shell company, upon graduation and partial completion of her residency (working in a hospital as a surgeon, while doing shifts as a PCD).

She was originally a candidate for various science teams before she was assigned to Recon Team 40 as their medical doctor. In training, she focused on learning to use elements of her ‘kit’ she was unfamiliar with, including issued weapons and survival equipment.

Personal Interests

Her hobbies include cheese making, fermenting, bread making, and pretty much anything that uses a combination of yeast, plants and chemistry.

Personality

She is rarely found without some book on science of some kind, knowing that she couldn’t take the whole of human knowledge with her.She is a bookworms, and lacks most common ‘social’ knowledge (including pop-culture references and information - think Temperance Brennon from Bones). She can be awkward in social situations, but is generally well meaning - prefers her machines, plants, and animals often to humans (‘I can fix them and understand them better than most people’). It’s strange that she didn’t take a different educational path with that perspective.
