Osman's Scroll of Creation

Page history last edited by Michael 6 years, 1 month ago

back to the Castle Falkenstein index, or to the list of Lorebooks

One of the Four Mysteries of Osman the Prophet; the Templar order possesses two of the other mysteries.

While the Lore contained here dates back at least two millenia, the best-known example was found inscribed (in Hebrew) on multiple glass plates dating from the Crusades. The tome has been more recently transcribed onto more mundane forms. Versions are known to exist in Hebrew, Arabic, Latin (in Novostia), English and Siamese (long story!). It contains five spells (all using Diamond aspect thaumic energies).

Creation of Palaces (10 )

This allows the mage to conjure buildings, gardens, bridges, or other structures. The materials created are not greatly valuable (no precious metals, gems, iron, steel, or "modern" materials), and the entire structure must be envisioned by the caster while the spell is being cast -- this may somewhat limit the complexity. The conjured materials have their natural properties for the duration of the spell; thus an overly ambitious design might collapse. The caster may check Education to determine if some reasonable but unstated (by the Player) feature is present in the final product, with modifiers for very ambitious or simple structures. This spell will not displace or replace existing objects to produce its effect.

Castles in the Air (14 )

This works as the Creation of Palaces, but allows for some subversion of the laws of mechanics, engineering and gravity. If you want a cloud palace, or just a remarkably cantilevered balcony, use this spell.

Delving (16 )

The use of this Lore allows the mage to make tunnels, caves or canals, by displacing the earth itself.

Creation of Vessels (12 )

This is used to make watercraft, from rafts to mighty galleons. Some inherent features of stability and usefulness are always present except in highly awkward conceptions. No animated or mechanically driven ships may be created with this Lore. The spell has limitations similar to Creation of Palaces in regards to materials, complexity and features.

House Beautiful / Unkempt (10 )

An element of Lore very similar to the common Housewifery cantrip used by modern sorcerers, but allows the use of Definitions. The reversal, House Unkempt, is rarely employed.
