"Average" freight costs to Mars estimated at 2 shillings per pound in the above tables. For specific values:
First class freight is for items that must be carefully stowed and looked after: valuables, perishable items that must be kept cool or warm, fragile items, dangerous items. Freight rate, 3 shillings per pound.
Second class freight is for items in barrels, boxes or bags that don't need any special handling or precautions. Freight rate, 2 shillings per pound.
Third class freight is for cargo unlikely to be damaged by handling, vacuum, or extremes of temperature: coal, bricks, hides, lumber, etc. Freight rate, 1 shilling 8 pence per pound.
Fourth class cargo is the same as third class, but with a weight of at least 5 tons for the shipment. Freight rate, 1 shilling 6 pence per pound.
